Three L10ns

As the nation puts aside its club rivalries and unites for the England team as they kick off in South Africa, there is a new version of the greatest England song ever written to cheer them on with.

Out now on Parlophone Records, 3 Lions 2010 has been re-recorded by ‘The Squad’. Produced by Trevor Horn, and featuring the song’s original writer Ian Broudie, the track has been enhanced for 2010 with vocals from Robbie Williams, Russell Brand, The Official England Band and fans from The Official England Supporters Club. John Motson provides the commentary, and soprano Olivia Safe adds new magic with her goose bump inducing ‘its coming home’ refrain. David Baddiel and Frank Skinner – the song’s original creators – also feature on the track.

Originally a fan anthem during Euro 96 which has accompanied England’s progress at every major football tournament since, 3 Lions 2010 is backed by a full orchestra and choir and was recorded at Abbey Road Studios. It was then spirited off to Sarm Studios – commonly known as Trevor Horn’s batcave – where it was crafted into a football anthem of Wembley sized proportions.

As Trevor himself explains, “It had to be done – I am either the brave one or the foolish one who said I will have a go… I did it for England!”

Ian Broudie: "The public really wanted a new version of 3 Lions and after 14 years it felt like the right time to have a new recording but it had to be just right, When I hear this version … I can't wait for the world cup to start!... Trevor has done this brilliant orchestral version of 3 Lions. It has opera singers, a choir and a full orchestra."

Outstanding Contribution

Congratulations to Trevor

...on winning the PRS for Music 'Outstanding Contribution to British Music Award' at the 55th Ivor Novello Awards at Grosvenor House Hotel on 20 May! This follows Trevor's receipt of a Sound Fellowship Award at the third annual APRS Sound Fellowship Lunch last November, which was presented by Sir George Martin. The Sound Fellowship was inaugurated in 2007 to mark the 60th Anniversary of the APRS and to recognise excellence and achievement within the recording industry.

Trevor signs Olivia Safe

Back in October 2009, Olivia Safe sung with Robbie Williams at the London Roundhouse for the BBC Electric Proms.

In a show broadcast live in over 250 cinemas across 23 countries, she provided the breathtaking intro for the concert's opening number, Bodies, backed by a 38-piece orchestra. That show's musical director of course was Trevor Horn who, blown away by her performance, has signed her to Zang Tuum Tumb, as recently reported in Music Week.

She is currently recording her début album – a collection of covers ranging from Damien Rice to Leonard Cohen, Rufus Wainwright to Tim Buckley – with Trevor, Graham Archer (Robbie Williams, John Legend) and Julian Hinton at the controls.

Emotion & Commotion, with Jeff Beck

Trevor Horn has produced Jeff Beck's brand new album - his first studio record for seven years.

Emotion & Commotion is out now, was recorded at Sarm West studios and also features the talents of Stephen Lipson, Joss Stone and Olivia Safe. It comes 25 years almost to the day since Jeff recorded the theme to Channel 4's The Tube with Trevor and the Art of Noise THeam.

The album has been highly praised by The Independent, which calls it “a masterclass in evocative subtly," not least the "guitar-and-strings version of the Corpus Christi Carol, inspired by Jeff Buckley's interpretation, Beck's subtle control of tone, volume and sustain characteristics quietly accumulating emotional momentum...."

Blue Moon, with Rod Stewart

According to American Songwriter.com, the album "could be the Holy Grail for fans of the smokey-voiced English crooner. Once In A Blue Moon, an all-covers album recorded in 1992 with producer Trevor Horn, is a must-hear for fans."

On ...Blue Moon, Trevor produces Rod singing classics by Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Nicks, and others. There also two previously unreleased songs, tucked away as hidden tracks.
