Three L10ns

As the nation puts aside its club rivalries and unites for the England team as they kick off in South Africa, there is a new version of the greatest England song ever written to cheer them on with.

Out now on Parlophone Records, 3 Lions 2010 has been re-recorded by ‘The Squad’. Produced by Trevor Horn, and featuring the song’s original writer Ian Broudie, the track has been enhanced for 2010 with vocals from Robbie Williams, Russell Brand, The Official England Band and fans from The Official England Supporters Club. John Motson provides the commentary, and soprano Olivia Safe adds new magic with her goose bump inducing ‘its coming home’ refrain. David Baddiel and Frank Skinner – the song’s original creators – also feature on the track.

Originally a fan anthem during Euro 96 which has accompanied England’s progress at every major football tournament since, 3 Lions 2010 is backed by a full orchestra and choir and was recorded at Abbey Road Studios. It was then spirited off to Sarm Studios – commonly known as Trevor Horn’s batcave – where it was crafted into a football anthem of Wembley sized proportions.

As Trevor himself explains, “It had to be done – I am either the brave one or the foolish one who said I will have a go… I did it for England!”

Ian Broudie: "The public really wanted a new version of 3 Lions and after 14 years it felt like the right time to have a new recording but it had to be just right, When I hear this version … I can't wait for the world cup to start!... Trevor has done this brilliant orchestral version of 3 Lions. It has opera singers, a choir and a full orchestra."
